Dubai 9 hours in Dubai... what to see?
Posted: Thu April 24, 2008 03:35 AM UTC
Hi I have a compulsary stopover in Dubai on Friday 9th may, arrive at 0530 and depart at 1430. Can anyone recommend the must-see attractions of Dubai that i can do in, say 3 hours from 9am-12noon? I was thinking of doing the big bus tour but would like to know which stops I should get off at given i have limited time. Appreciated any tips... thanks in advance.

Hi from Dubai :-)

the issue is, that Friday is our weekend. And Friday mornings the shops, museum, souks (=bazars) and other sights are all closed.

You could check with the big bus tour if they still offer a tour on a Friday morning, and what it includes. But I guess they would probably just drive around town (there won't be any traffic on Friday mornings, so that's a bonus!) but they might not stop anywhere because everything (apart from a few restaurants and cafes) will be closed.

As Jess said, not much will be open until later in the day. If you just want to see things in general, a BigBus tour is a good idea. They have two routes, one around the original city and the other through parts of New Dubai, to Madinat Jumeirah, seeing Burj Al Arab, Dubai Marina etc. A

Alternatively, go into the centre of the city, for example to Radisson SAS hotel on the Creek, then walk down alongside the Creek where all the dhows are moored and around the souk areas, then take an abra (ferry) across to Bur Dubai and walk around the souks there. Most of the souks will be closed but you'll see the older parts of the city and get some of the atmosphere.

Hi...First I must say welcome to Dubai!!1 As it was mentioned before its tough that you are arriving on a Friday. Most Shops would be closed so shopping is out unless you want to visit the major malls.Big Bus tour is yr best bet and being Friday so no chance of getting stuck in the traffic. Burj al Arab is the best bet among the other site seeing places including the upcomong tallest building. If you have any issues or problems please feel to call on me when you land ...my cell number is 0097150 3619412

Hi there,
I believe big bus tour operates on Fridays, you can check it out on the following URL:

http://www.bigbustours.com/eng/dubai/custompage.aspx?id=faqs

However for the price of the tour you can have a superb lunch in Sheraton Dubai Creek Hotel & Towers and walk along side the creek which history of Dubai starts. Have a long on their official web site on the following URL:

http://www.starwoodhotels.com/sheraton/property/area/index.html?propertyID=408

Safe trip and good luck.
