Hi Martin,
Contact Sam in PP for a price, he takes people all over Cambodia, he use to work for Aussies at the Australian Embassy in PP, so speaks great English etc. Theres lots more info on him and photos of his car below.

Hi- I seem to remember the bus took longer than it was supposed to (I think 4.5 instead of 3.5 hours.) It's a beautiful and interesting journey though so the time passes quickly. If you go for a more expensive bus company it would be a comfortable and still cheap journey. I can't comment on taxis but I presume they would be considerably quicker.

with gas prices going up, private taxis have to increase their prices more than the busses. when we were their (jan.2008) it was more than the year before. the busses do take longer than they tell you (4,5 hrs would be about right) but they stop for some food, and are okay.
we took Surya bus company near the central market in PP (opposite the gas station)

it was reliable both ways!

happy travels,
