| Tokyo | I have 4 days in Japan, Where should I go? Posted: Thu April 24, 2008 12:38 AM UTC
Hi VT!
Let me clarify, I will still stay 4 days in Tokyo and I have 4 days to spend traveling around the rest of Japan. I wish I could stay longer. This is my first trip to Japan. I am going to buy a rail pass to travel around. Where do you recommend I go to see the most interesting things in the shortest amount of time. I was thinking: 1 day in Kyoto, 1 day in Nara, 1 day in Osaka, 1 day Mt.Fuji area. Is this the best itinerary? Or what else do you recommend and why? I would like to thank you in advance for all the VT travelers who help me out. Please feel free to share as much information as you would like. It will be greatly appreciated it :o) Have a beautiful day! |

Hi Cynthia
I think your 4 days plan is quite good. Since you are getting the rail Pass, you may consider to go to Hiroshima instead of Osaka. Because you gonna spend 4 days in Tokyo, Osaka's city is not as nice as tokyo city. Unless there is something you want to see in osaka. So if you are doing Kyoto, Nara, Hiroshima, Mt Fuji, you can see historical things in Kyoto and Nara, Natural Scenery around MT Fuji (Recommend Kawaguchiko (but you have to pay about 2500 yen extra on top of Rail Pass, else Hakone), Scenic and Atomic bomb museum at Hiroshima.

Hi again !
As blacksnail already stated, you could leave out Osaka (very comparable to Tokyo, so to say) and could combine your Nara-trip with Kyoto, as Nara can easily be done from Kyoto.Usually you have to calculate one afternoon for Nara, so you'll have 1 1/2 days for Kyoto and it's sights(about tenthousand temples !)If you go to Mt Fuji-area, best take a bus to Hakone on your way to Kyoto, then from Hakone /Odawara station the Shinkansen to Kyoto. Hiroshima and Myajima with its shrine in the ocean you shouldn't leave out ! Good Luck!

I traveled to Tokyo during March for the sakura viewing season. There are lots of places to visit in Tokyo, e.g Asakusa, Karimon Gate, Sensoji Temple, Shinjuku, Tokyo Tower, Harajuku, Tsukiji Fish Market, Roppongi, etc, etc... There's simply too many to list here. You can go to my travel blog to download my own tokyo itinerary and details of specific walks in Tokyo.

I would do in this way
minimum 2 days in Kyoto (u will find a real old Japan there), 1 day Nikko, 1 day Nara I didnt like Osaka, Fuji is just a mountain, are u sure u want to refuse from the culture capital of Japa - Kyoto to visit Fuji? If u are sure then u could visit Ovakudami (sp?) nearby. In Tokio I liked the most Asakusa (temple of Morning grass), Ueno, Gindza of course is a must see, u can see 1 action of Kabuki show (all perfomance is about 4 hrs but u can buy ticket only for 1 action), Sunshine building - to see from the top and O-Daiba - it is fantastic to go there by JR
