| Berlin | Schönes-Wochenende-Ticket Posted: Wed April 23, 2008 10:50 PM UTC
hi
is it necessary to purchase this type of ticket in advance? there will be 4 of us travelling from berlin - dresden and the special wkend ticket will only cost 35 euros. do you think it's necessary to buy it online before i arrive in berlin or do most locals just buy their wkend ticket on that day? thanks |

It is good enough to buy it on the day. You also get it from vending machines at the station.

No. This ticket is always available. You can buy it on spot from DB ticket machines (railway stations) or from BVG ticket machines (U-Bahn, tram and bus stops). The Happy-Weekend-Ticket covers besides the regional trains also all other local public transport in Berlin. But not in Dresden.
If you go to a counter it will be EUR 37,00 instead of EUR 35,00. > locals just buy their wkend ticket on that day There are very few case where buying in advance makes sense. As this ticket comes with no change no refund this is always a bit risky. It makes sense to buy in in advance if you travel from abroad into Germany, i.e. start at places where you cannot buy this ticket and don't want to make a stopover just for buying this ticket. E.g. Luxembourg to Cologne on regional trains would be such a trip, where you could just buy a ticket from Luxembourg to the first station in Germany and use the Happy-Weekend-Ticket from there on.
