| Tokyo | Hotels on Yamanote Line Posted: Wed April 23, 2008 09:40 PM UTC
Hello!
Can you recomend a good hotel with short walking distance to Yamanote Line. I`ve heard that should be good for access to all the places in the city. We want to stay in an area with something going on, but it doesn`t have to be Shinjuku/Shibuya-going-on. Many people in here talks about Asakusa. Is that a good area? |

I agree with Pupulainen.. Asakusa is very good for sightseeing and it is an old and beautiful area. By the shrine there is markets and they close around 9pm-ish. There are a few good restaurants but no buzzing nightlife if you are after bars or clubs. However Asakusa is still a good place to stay. From there it is only 3 stops to Ueno on the subway and from Ueno you got Yamanote line taking you to Shibuya or Shinjuku. If I dont stay with friends in Tokyo I stay at K's House in Asakusa. :)
Saw that you asked about Gotanda in another posting and that is where my Japanese friends live. It is not a busy buzzing area but but perfect since it is on the Yamanote line and also close to Roppongi which is a popular nightlife area. :)

I have found that the the Shimbashi station/Shiodome area is very convenient for tourists. Not only is it an fast trip to Asakusa and points north on the Yamonote but you can use the Oedo subway line to cut across to Shinjuku. There are also many of the popular tourist stops within walking distance, like Tsukiji, the royal palace grounds, Ginza, Kabuki-za and a fast taxi ride to Ryogoku, or Tokyo Tower, Odaiba... (I've even walked to Tokyo Tower from Shimbashi, as well as Akihabara to Simbashi). There are more shopping options, restaurants and bars than you will ever need in a lifetime, within walking distance.
The area is also well served by Friendly Airport Limousine Bus. Search the keywords for hotels in the area.

We`re not going to Japan for Party, but we want to have access to some bars and resaurants in the evening. The most of our stay will be at the usual tourist path, I guess, and therefor we just need a nice place to rest, with easy access to everything. It`s hard to get recomendations for specific hotels (except K`s (-:). I`m just confused. But maybe it doesn`t matter much where you stay. Anyway, thanks for replying to my post (-:
