| Budapest | Airport transfers Posted: Wed April 23, 2008 07:22 PM UTC
We will be arriving in Budapest in late September and would like recommendations for going from the airport to our hotel. How reasonable is taxi service & how long will it take to go from airport to centrally located hotel? Are there other options besides buses?

Everyone tells me I am nuts but I use Budapesttransfer.com. Nuts because I pay USD30 each way. Actually the charge I believe is Euro 30 each way. I think they just gave me a break last month because I use them so often. I am not as young as I once was and when I get off the plane after 17 hours of traveling its just worth the money to me to toss my bags to the guy waiting with my name on a card - crawl into the back of the car and just zone out on the way to the hotel. He already knows where i need to go, no explinations, no haggling over cost, no worries that he will take me to the airport, no screwing with bags on a bus, no payment until the trip back .... it costs, but for me its worth it. On one trip I hired them to pick my wife and I up at the theater and take us to dinner. We had planned to walk to the thearter from the hotel (it was close). It started to rain about the time we were going to leave so they sent a car to take us to the theater -- no charge. Again, I use them a lot and they are just generally good people.
But it costs.

The trains run from the airport into Budapest. We went everywhere on the train while we were there. It's clean and easy to navigate. Here's the website with the info on the trains from the airport: http://www.bud.hu/english/transport.

My proposal: The "Zóna taxi" (http://www.zonataxi.eu/en/tartalom/fooldal/ ), - winner of the Airport taxi tender - , delivers the passengers from terminal 2b to a centrally located hotel for HUF 4100.- . But you can pay only in cash and only in Forints for the transport at the moment. To change money is possible at the Airport. The travel to the center demands cca. 15 - 20 minutes, if there is no rush hour.
Greetings L.

The various taxi companies are: (i generally use Taxi 2000 - but only because i can remember the number) But once in town, the subway and the trams will get you any place you need to go -- cheaply, cleanly, and with some fun. Get a two or three day card and just get on and off where you need to.
