Forum Question Posted By: Replies:
New York City Accomdoation
Posted: Wed April 23, 2008 09:37 AM UTC
Hi,

I was wanting to stay in New York for a couple of weeks and I was wondering what would be the best option for accomodation as the prices especially in Manhattan are really expensive. I don't want to stay in a dormitory ot hostel, I would rather have my own room. Any suggestions would be much appreciated and I would be travelling from the UK.

Thanks

Martin

Martin, take a look at www.quikbook.com. When I lived in NY, they often had very good hotel deals - even better if you talk with one of their operators on the phone. With the exchange rate, a decent room in Manhattan, may not sound like so many ££. The Hotel Pennsylvania and the Edison usually have fairly low rates for NY and aren't all that bad.. also centrally located. There are apartments for rent by the week, but I don't know which are good or not that expensive.

also check our the Mariott hotels, Doubletree and the Holiday inns. They are all mostly located in midtown (times square area) which is usually about the cheapest area.

Also Google B&Bs, maybe in Harlem. I've seen some that are pretty reasonable.

Try priceline.com. You can probably get something for about $200...the farther away from Times Square the cheaper. I would start w/4 star but I think you'll be ok with 2 star also. You can find bidding strategies on betterbidding.com. Also Hotwire.com is ok also. You can figure out which hotel it is when it gives you the current price - then check hotels.com for the same hotels with that price and area of city. Check tripadvisor.com for user reviews for a specific hotel if you can. You cannot do that w/ priceline but if you stick w/ the 3-4 star you'll be ok.

Sorry - I realized I made an error in my post. If you do priceline...I would not go below 3 star!

Hi Bed & Breakfast is normally much cheaper. Last June we had 7 days at Inn on 23rd Street, a very nice B&B, but possibly might be a little pricy. I have read in this formum several months ago about some very reasonably priced B & B in nyc. Go to my page if you want to check out the Inn.

I recommend you visit web page www.tripadvisor.com and search New York City. They have a Bed 7 Breakfast section as well as Hotels.

Good Luck,
Mike
