Nuweiba` Cairo to Nuweiba to Aqaba
Posted: Wed April 23, 2008 09:03 AM UTC
My daughter and I ( 2 women) will be visiting Cairo and would like to take a few days to visit Petra. I understand that there is a ferry from Nuweiba to Aqaba. Is there safe transportation from Aqaba to Petra / Wadi Moussa? I have received mixed advice from friends who have told me it is not safe for 2 women to travel alone and have recommended we hire a tour guide for the trip.

We (52 & 58 & female) did this trip and had more hassles in Nuweiba than in Jordan. You may need to pay a bit more for good accomodation in Nuweiba, it was not the nicest of places really.

We took a hire car to Petra - we could not get a bus or other transport on the day - we actually met up with another tourist at the bus station and sharing the car was great.

There is a lot of talk about unsafe hotels in Petra for women. We had heard this and was not too sure what to do. In the end we found a nice hotel, they looked after us, got us meals etc. The day we left we heard that our hotel was one of the suspect places - go figure!!

We had no hassles at all in Jordan and I would happily say do it yourself. Hire cars (services) were really quite cheap and we met lots of people willing to share costs getting from place to place.

Greetings -

Thanks for your quick reply. Did you start your trip in Cairo? And if so, where did you hire your car?

When in Aqaba, did you hire a guide for the trip into Petra?

Thanks!

This is the worst company ever , i heard many bad comments from people who had previous bad experience but i never believed this!!!
I'm writting now while i am sitting in Newbaa port, i booked for the Speed boat which I WAS TOLD that it goes at 10 , now it's 1 pm , no news , nobody here to ask , their office is empty , nobody to get any piece of info about it , i had to call to Cairo office and then i was told that that morning one left already without taking anyone to pickup some other passengers from another port in saudi arabia , and i'll have to take the 2 OR 3 pm (he's not sure when it comes) , he was even so rude on the phone to the extent that i hung up on him!!! they're just taking it for granted!!!! can anybody beleieve this!!! Not even telling the passengers who are waiting in the departure hall ,this is an unbelivable bad experience and i will keep talking and talking about it , and OVER MY DEAD BODY i will take it again , even if i'll get the ticket for free!!!!
