| Laos | Place to relax Posted: Wed April 23, 2008 08:46 AM UTC
Hi!
Okay, that may sound a bit funny, but can you recommend any place where I can do literally nothing but relax? I think I need a travel-rest for a few days, and if Laos had a beach I would go there... what else could you recommend? It should be just a nice and calm place, not too difficult to reach, not a bustling city, just a nice scenic place - maybe something like a hill station? Thanks for your advices, ianchen |

Oh, another thought: is there a place for a meditation or yoga retreat you can recommend?

You cannot go past Luang Prabang.
OK it's on the main tourist circuit but it is so relaxing. Lots to do or not to do. I was very happy sitting by the river all day and also up in the mountains just wandering. There's a bit more activity at Van Vieng but again it's a great place to relax. A lovely river. nice walks, some nicely semi-isolated villages nearby where you can stay.

I agree LP is an amazing spot to relax and take in the local culture. Hire a bike and ride around by the river and town. Alternately we quite enjoyed Vang Vieng but we did not stay in a gh in town we stayed in a posh hotel on the riverbank that had its own pool overlooking the river I think I have it on my VT pages we paid about $US36 a night(double) with breakfast and each morning the staff would set up our beds and umbrellas on the deck next to the pool over looking the river. We stayed here 4 days and enjoyed every minute venturing into town in the evenings for dinner. Checkout Nam Sok GH in LP rooms from $US10 single no b/fast.

Hi,
thanks for your tipps so far! (Even though more are still welcome ;) ). I think Laos is exactly the right place for me... I arrived in Vientiane today, and it's such a relaxed little city... more like a village actually (at least compared with Bangkok), so I think I will stay here for a couple of days. Actually Nang Vieng was on my list! And PL of course, too, but i expected it to be rather urbanized; nice to hear that it is not too hectic. We will see how my itinary turns out. I'm still hoping for some trips about mediation or yoga :) LG ianchen
