Concelho de Macau First Time in Macao
Posted: Wed April 23, 2008 08:12 AM UTC
Hello every one, my and my family are planning to visit macao on may17-19th, we might be staying at the Venetian. anyways since its our first time, i would like to ask suggestions and answers for ff:
1. nearby shopping (budget and designer)
2. dining with good outdoor ambience/ fair priced
(preferably in entertainment center other than the hotels or malls nearby )
3. modern architecture etc
4. shows like cirque du soleil or any fun show
5. other MUSTS to do and go to in macau
6. Is Wynn near venetian?
7. The best night clubs..(with good house/ techno music)
7. Do we have to take rides or we can just walk around and see all the mentioned?

and also, is the venetian accessible to other places other than the casinos? we don't really gamble but we jst want to see asia's las vegas. All of us are adults, youngest is 18. Is there any age restrictions? Thank you guys, hope u can help. I really dont have any picture of what to expect in macau other than venetian itself.;)

1. The Venetian has a huge shopping complex within and there are many wings/sections designed to make it seem like you're visiting Venice.
2. Restaurants aren't that big on al fresco dining but I'd recommend Nga Tim's at Coloane Village on Coloane Island for a blend of excellent Chinese and Macanese food. They've got excellent seafood. There's also a small bakery around the corner that's got the best custard tarts in Macau.
3. Most of the modern architecture are hotel designs so it's either the Cotai Strip or back on the mainland where all the casinos are. The Wynn has a great rotunda with a light and music show which lasts a half hour.
4. No Cirque yet but it's a matter of time since China has some of the best acrobats. Some casinos offers changing floor shows.
5. Spend a day walking the city center visiting museums (the fort, Macau Museum, shopping plaza of Leal Senado Square which offers far better prices than shopping at the Venetian despite the Venetian having the designer label/brand names.
6. Sorry but I try to avoid techno.
7. Very easy and cheap to take free shuttles between the Venetian and major destination stops such as the Macau Ferry Terminal, the Sands Hotel, the border gate, the airport. Get a free map with the bus routes and it's very cheap to catch local buses but you need exact change/coins.
Minimum age to enter casino is 18yo.

Have an excellent time!

Can't help you with hotels since I haven't stayed in any of them. However, I do like the looks of the Wynn and Star World. Those 2 and MGM Grand are right next to each other and also within easy walking distance of each other whereas the Venetian is a self-contained 'village'. The Sands isn't that far either. BTW, the weirdest looking hotel is the newer Hotel Lisboa.

see my travel page, freshly posted :).

Macau is so tiny, you can stay in venetian for the entire duration.

There are free shuttle buses that take u from Venetian to Sand, which is in the city.

Wynn is the closest to Macau old town. Wyn is next to MGM is next to Sands:)
