Would we have enough time to see Nice, Eze and Monte Carlo if we decide to rent a van? If so, do you have any recommendations where we ca rent a van?

Please let me know.

Thanks!

When you dock at the harbour, the city will be on your left handside, on the other side of the big hill (Colline du Château), that's where you want to go, you can take a bus, a taxi or walk (only 5 minutes walk to the Old Town).

I often use ADA in France, they usually offer the best value-for-money rentals, they have a few agencies in Nice, the most convenient for you is on 4 Rue Meyerbeer, just 50 metres off the Promenade des Anglais, near the spectacular Negresco hotel (itself on the Promenade des Anglais).

However, ask yourselves whether it is worth the bother for 6 hours. Nice itself is a lovely city, spend 1 hour walking the Promenade des Anglais, and another hour in the Old Town.

And if you want to escape to the hills, you could easily share a taxi to Eze (it's only 11 kms, so approx. €25 -see tariffs PDF below), the ride to Eze is very scenic, and spend 2 happy hours there, it is a beautiful village, with a great Jardin exotique.

There are buses for Eze leaving every 2 hours (it only takes about 18 minutes) from the well located station Bus station near the Old Town (see timetable), the fare is ridiculous cheap: €1 (it is a flat tariff for all destinations within the department -subsidised by the County Council). Ask for a ticket "Tarif Azur". You need bus number 112 (Line Nice-Beausoleil)

There's one leaving Nice at 9H00.

You'll waste more time organising the rental than it is worth. It will also cost you an arm and a leg. A taxi would be quicker and cheaper but the buses and trains are fabulous. I believe there is a bus that goes from Nice to Monaco by way of Eze in a little over an hour, then you could get the train back from Monaco. It takes twenty minutes and they run every twenty minutes. Do yourself a favour and forget the rental, it would be a monumental waste of money. Remeber also that you will have to find parking in these places if you have a van and that can be absolutely frustrating not to mention expensive and time wasting.

Six hours is not enough time for all three. Concentrate on Monaco first then explore Old Town in Nice before leaving.

You will never have time to get a rental car and drive to and from Monaco let alone find a parking place and see the town its August! the roads are packed solid

Monaco is in my humble opinion is about as over rated as it gets, but if you like looking at pre-cast concrete buildings you will love it. Otherwise ask yourself what are you planning on going to see, there in my opinion are only a few places worth looking at and they are mostly at opposite ends of albeit a small town.

The Enchanted Garden in Eze is a climb but it is very pretty, and a cab ride there will not break the bank if you avoid the cost road. you may even have time for a stop on the way back at villefranche sur mer which is also a very pretty place. But be under no illusion traffic is appalling at that time of year on the Cote D Azur.

Thanks Nitrofan for you informative response. I will just probably just look into the Old Town because all we honestly just have is 6 hours out of the ship - and with all the people there running out of the ship and getting back in - will probably cut our time out to 5 hours. Thanks!
