Chicago Riding the Subway
Posted: Wed April 23, 2008 06:36 AM UTC
I'm planning on riding the Subway from O'Hare to downtown. What I'm concerned about mainly is safety. I'm sure I'm being a little too cautious but I figure better safe than sorry. I'll be going one way on a Friday morning and heading back to O'Hare on Sunday late morning. While toting a carry-on, and laptop I'll obviously have tourist written on my forehead so do I have anything to worry about?

Thanks ahead

You will not have tourist written all over your forehead.

You will be fine at the times you have listed, but make sure you get off at the right stop when you get downtown.

There are not so nice areas 6 minutes from downtown.

I really didn't think I would but like I said, better safe than sorry.

I want to stop downtown where I can walk from the blue line to the red line. If I remember correctly it's Jackson St?

Thanks guys, I knew people in ChiTown Rocked!!!!

Have a good day.

Here is the link to the downtown section of the CTA. Jackson Street is your transfer station. http://www.transitchicago.com/maps/maps/200804D.html. Like any other big city transit keep a close reign on your belongings and your wallet in your front pocket.

Just keep an eye on your luggage and you will be fine.

Jackson is the easiest way to get from the blue line to the red line. ( BTW, when using the red line, keep in mind that the Washington station is closed for much of 2008 )

I'll be getting off the red @ Chicago St. stop. and heading over to the rehab center. I have plenty of experience using the NYC subway and that's no problem so I figured I'd be OK in ChiTown also.

Thanks for all the help and info.

Hi All, the subway trips were fine this past weekend. It actually was kind of cool. I was never in Chicago before and I have to say I was impressed. Far cleaner than NYC ever is. I wish I could have been there simply for pleasure. I think it could be a fun place. Maybe sometime in the future.

Thanks for everyone's help.
