| Livorno | How long wil it take? Posted: Tue April 22, 2008 08:12 PM UTC
If anyone could answer these questions:
1. How long will it take to drive from Livorno to Florence? 2. Is it easy getting from the cruise ship terminal to the main highway to get to Florence? 3. Is it easy to find the parking lot at the train station in Florence, or is there a better place to park? 4. How much does it cost to park in the train station in Florence? |

Drive time, port of Livorno to Florence parking space, direct driving, no stopping, average time is 1 hour to 1 hour 15 minutes. Easy to get to A12 and then A11. Italian directional signs are easy to follow, just look for the one you want because there may be 6 signs at one location. Trains, I leave alone. Takes time to get to stations and time to wait for train, time to find a seat, and then no stops along the way, get off at station, and repeat to return. Sorry, driving is much easier, but it does depend on the city. No, I will not drive Roma or Napoli. But I do Los Angeles. lol

The drive is an easy one on the A1.
You will want to exit Firenza Certosa - there is a divide and it may be the A1 toward Siena and not Firenza Nord which can be traffic laden and complicated Take the Via Senese off the exit. just at Porta Romana at the bottom of the hill you will need to make a left and go a bit until seel the Via Baccio and cross the bridge and look for the signs to Santa Maria Novella Train Station. There is parking underground of the station and the cost is around i will say 10 euro an hour. You pay as you exit the garage with euro - the machine will take your money - out of the train station you can walk under the tunnel and come up to street level. I might consider visiting Santa Maria Novella first as it is a major church in Florence, and then simply walk toward the Dome - it is visible no matter where you are in Florence. You can begin your day there and easily walk to the major sites. Buona Fortuna. The drive into florence only means you will have to have a bit of courage, but if you look to cross a bridge down from the ponte vecchio which is walking only, you will be close to the station. Be careful of pickpockets coming out of the station and around Santa Maria Novella - it is not a dangerous area during the day, but has some seedy characters around.
