Zagreb Entertainment in Zagreb (May 16th and 17th)
Posted: Tue April 22, 2008 08:10 PM UTC
Hi all

I am coming to Zagreb with 8 of my mates for a stag do in mid May. We are all in our mid thirties so are not interested in naff stag activities such as lap dancing clubs etc. We just want to come for a chilled weekend and enjoy a few beers in some cool bars and clubs. Can people recommend.

1) Good bars for outside drinking
2) Any cool clubs that play house, techno, hip hop and not just full of 17 year olds.
3)Any sporting activities we could do on the Sat daytime

And finally we are staying in the Movie Hotel, can some one tell us how close this is to all the nightlife area's (by walking)

Thanks alot

A stag do in Zagreb? Think this is the first one.

You will be here Fri and Sat so you’ll have a lot of options to have a beer or two.

Movie hotel hosts one of the most popular pubs in town (Movie Pub), pretty packed with not too young people, with live mostly rock music - so you can go to the basement of your hotel and have fun.

10 minutes walk from Movies you will reach clubs Roko, Akademija, InBar, Best, Petica (packed with 20-something crowd, lots of students especially in Roko and Akademija).

If you still feel like walking, downtown area is about 20 minutes by foot (tram stop is right in front of the hotel, you can get to the center in 5 minutes). There are dozens of bars there – the most popular outdoor cafe street is Tkalciceva (younger crowd), stop by in Bogoviceva street (Bulldog bar – more serious folks, outside sitting). After midnight the place to be is Jarun park with 3-4 or more big clubs (more glitzy, designed DJ places not bar type). To get there from the center take a taxi, not cheap but not too expensive.

Some of Jarun clubs are Piranha

The best club there IMO is Aquarius (great DJ program).

Similar places downtown would be Hemingway bar and Gjuro

Hope you’ll enjoy your stay at least as much as I enjoyed tonight’s Liverpool-Chelsea game.

Hi

CyberCroat gave you good suggestions for a night in Zagreb.

For a day trip you could maybe go to rafting in Gorski kotar (cca 1,5 hrs drive from Zagreb). Maybe paint ball? or good food and wine in Croatian Zagorje (close to Zagreb)? Hiking to Medvednica - Sljeme (the mountain above Zagreb where the locals go to relax and where you can enjoy in good atmosphere in climbers lodgings). there can be arranged a bike tour on the mountain and after you can enjoy relaxing in the pool, jacuzzi and sauna...

much obliged thats really useful information. What are dress codes like in Zagreb bars/clubs - were not the smartest bunch and don't really dress up beyond jeans, trainers and smart shirt.

The dress code depends on the club you wish to go to. Fancy-shmancy places like Piranah, Gallery, some lounge bars (Spoon or People's) have "no trainers" policy. In the centre of Zagreb, most of the bars have an outside terrace as of now, I'd recommend bars like Marasccino on Cvjetni Trg, Funk Club in Tkalciceva, Fanatic on Ribnjak. Clubs...really depends what kind of music do you listen to. I wouldn't recommend bars previously posted like Petica as of late they play really unsavory music and passing by I've seen many fights breaking out. Check www.inzg.net or www.inyourpocket.com/croatia/city/zagreb.html for listing of all the things going on in Zagreb so you can pick what you like.
