| Brazil | Iguazu-Rio-Brasilia-Amazon in 3 weeks. Is this even possible? Posted: Tue April 22, 2008 01:44 PM UTC
Hello everyone,
My friend and I are coming to Brazil on July 1, and are planning to spend 3 weeks there. We would like to start at Iguazu falls, make our way to Rio (and spend a few days there), then go to Brasilia for a couple of days, and then do some sort of an Amazon tour from East to West... and finally end up in Peru. This seems very daunting: we have 3 weeks and a tight budget. Here are my questions: 1. Is this even feasible or should we scratch it and come up with a new plan? 2. How long would it take to get to each of these places if we are not flying? 3. Are there cheap flight options, or flight passes within Brazil? 4. Is it possible to trek all the way from Eastern Amazon (lets say Belem) through Brazil and into Peru? 5. If not, where can we find a cheap flight from Brazil into Peru? Thank you so much! Julia |

I don't think it's feasible for the time you have
from Rio to Iguaçu by bus it would take 24 hours, from Rio to Brasilia about 18 hours, from Rio to Belem 56 hours, from Belem to Peru there are no roads, you'll have to take local ships and sleep in very bad conditions VARIG had a flight pass but now it doesn't fly to Belem anymore, perhaps TAM has one

Iguaçu - Rio is about 17 hours by bus. Rio Brasilia is another 20 or so hours. From Brasilia to belem will take some 40 hours by bus. You can go from belem by boat to Peru, but that will take some thee weeks. You could fly from Brasilia to Manaus (You can't get there over land) from where it's about a week and a half to two weeks to Peru.
1) I'd come up with another plan. Try Ilha de Marajó near Belem for some walking in the jungle. It's the worlds largest fluvial island. 2) see above 3) Yes you can get an airpass. 4) Yes, but probably not a good idea. Long trip 5) International destinations are mostly serviced from São Paulo and Rio.

TAM is a brazilian airway company. This company works at many brazilian cities/airports as Manaus, Belem and many others. TAM has Arequipa, Iquitos, Puerto Maldonado and Trujillo in its routes.
GOL is another brazilian airway company and works at many brazilian airports as well. GOL and TAM had chosen to run in the best brazilian airports. I am sending below the links from these two brazilian companies: http://www.tam.com.br/b2c/jsp/defaultBrasil.jsp http://www.voegol.com.br/ Cassiovieggore
