Aix-en-Provence Day Trips
Posted: Tue April 22, 2008 01:12 PM UTC
We are looking for some day trips during the 3 weeks we will be in Aix both driving ourselves and some of the less expensive guided tours. Can anyone make some suggestions other than those guided tours shown on the Tourist Office website and places we can drive to in 2 or 3 hours.
Thanks

3 hours drive time qualifies for a whole lot of France, hopefully none of these suggestions greatly exceed 2 hours drive time:

To the list above I would add:

Saint-Rémy: http://www.saintremy-de-provence.com/
Arles: http://www.tourisme.ville-arles.fr/
Monaco and Cannes are always fun for sightseeing and people watching
Aigues-Mortes in Camargue: http://www.ot-aiguesmortes.fr/

You'll run out of days faster than options

Have fun

I have to put in a vote for my favorite place, Isle-sur-la-Sorgue. It's a town that's known for its antiques, but even if that doesn't interest you, there's still a lot to offer. Yes, there are tourists, but not nearly as many as in the more well-known towns.

One of our favorite areas of France. You will not run out of things to do. Top of our list: Avignon, St. Remy, Lourmarin, Arles, the Camargue and Stes. Maries de la Mer, Grasse, Orange. There are wonderful abbeys in the area including Silvacane and Montmajour near Daudet's Mill which is a fun stop. If you are interested in painting at all, try to visit Roussillon and the ochre quarries. The town is lovely and the quarries fascinating.

Type the names of all the places suggested above into the VT Search Window to see the Travel Pages written by VT members. These pages will have all sorts of Tips about Restaurants, Things to Do, Off the Beaten Path ideas. It's a great resource with photos, reviews and web links.

You can also click the name of anyone who answers you here and check their Travel Pages on these places. It's a wonderful VT resource and lots of fun to look through photos and see what interests you. BTW, Aix has a marvelous Tourist Information Office right off the Cours Mirabeau. They can give you maps, information and even book tours if you like.

Have a wonderful trip.
