| Venice | A few questions on Venice Posted: Tue April 22, 2008 09:55 AM UTC
I tried to find the answers to my questions online and to make sure these weren't already asked on VT........
1.I'm arriving by train into Venice St Lucia station in order to take a cruise. Is it possible to walk from the station to the Maritima cruise terminal or do I have to take the Vaporetto? I have wheels on my luggage and not afraid to walk. 2.My cruise overnights in Venice on a Monday night. I've been to Venice before, loved it but could do without the crowds, what's Venice like on a MOnday Night? I'm not looking for restaurants, wondering if there are any must see watering holes or places to hear music? 3. Last question, what is there to see on Lido? Was thinking of spending day 2 before the sailaway and see what is out there. |

The Maritima cruise terminal is walkable from Santa Lucia and will take about 15/20 minutes. I have done this without luggage, and it's not the most comfortable way to get there. I'd suggest jumping on board vaporetto no 61 from Ferrovia(Santa Lucia) and getting off at St. Marta.
Monday nights in Venice are just like any other night. During the season, Venice is always crowded. As far as liquid refreshment is concerned, there's always Harry's Bar, but if you're no looking to spend your inheritance then try Bacarro Jazz, San Marco 5546 opposite the Central Post Office. Lido is great if you just want a typical beach day. There are many bars, restaurants and hotels but that's it.

Lido is quieter than Venice (unless you visit during the film festival late summer).
When in Venice I always go to Lido for a restaurant - I find the food there outstanding, excellent fish, and a little less touristy than in Venice.

Forgot metioning, very easy to get to Lido in the vaporetto - I know #1 goes there, but I'm sure there are others that do as well.
Here's the website in English for the vaporetto and other resources: http://www.actv.it/english/home.php Look under "water buses"

my daughter and i had fun on the lido when we hired one of those pedal bike things - they are hard to describe and i don't know their name - two people sit in them and pedal like mad - one steers - one blows the horn

I walked from the cruise ship terminal to the Piazza Roma with luggage. I think you could probably walk from the RR station too and if they have the bridge finished it shouldn't even be too bad a walk.
