| New York City | American Breakfast Posted: Tue April 22, 2008 08:29 AM UTC
Hi,
Anyone knows some authentic place in Manhattan to have the original American Breakfast (eggs, sliced bacon or sausages, pan cakes with syrup, cornflakes, coffee, orange/grapefruit juice hummm pancakes)? Thanks. |

Hi, The ideal place to go is one of the traditional diners you used to see on the 1960's TV shows. When we were there last June we ate at these diners several times, always good. Have photos of several on my NYC pages, restaurants. If you keep your eyes open you will find one close to you.
Good Luck, Mike

I strongly agree with DINERS! There are everywhere, where will you be staying? This will help us help you in suggesting places.

After you have your American breakfast, you may want to have some bagles on a different day. New York bagels are the best! Should not need to toast them, with or without cream cheese or butter and jelly. Sorry, no membrillo (my favorite).

The Brooklyn Diner is touristy, but the food is wonderful! They have a couple of midtown locations. If you want to splurge one morning, try Norma's.

If you decide to go the bagel route, I would go for Ess-a-Bagel--I don't know where you're staying, but there are two locations on the east side. I grew up three blocks from the one on 1st avenue and I can definitely vouch for them! Here's the site: http://www.ess-a-bagel.com/

hey!
O...where to begin. you will have to leave midtown though! Clinton st baking Company: amazing pancakes, bacon and eggs. get there early the wait is long after 11:30am. Bubbies: excellent homecooking the Diner: 14th street & 9th avenue. Any diner....anything that looks authentic. there are great dinners on 9th avenue between 30th & 40th street!

Hi, Gasca! I was going to post that very same question! If you know where to have a great breakfast on the Upper West Side (near 103 Street), please let me know. Thanks!

ooo...go a bit higher into harlem and go to Sylvia's for waffles and friend chicken!
Also on the upper west... * Good Enough to Eat on Amsterdam Ave. -good homecooking. * French Roast * EJ's -classic diner food. Also on Amsterdam. * Sarabeth's -nicer more spendy place

yes, definitely go with a diner or some of the other specific places recommended. Don't go to an IHOP (International House of Pancakes) - it's a large chain and doesn't provide the same authentic hometown feeling.
