| Prague | Parking in Prague Posted: Tue April 22, 2008 02:49 AM UTC
We will be coming from Frankfurt about December 10 to visit Prague for 3 days. We'd like to stay right in the centre of town and likely our hotel will not have parking. We have heard there is lots of theft of cars in Prague and so I'm a bit concerned about leaving a rental car. Can someone tell me about parking in the centre of the town and how concerned we should be about theft ? Is there secure parking anywhere ? I really am looking forward to our visit.
Hey how will the weather be about then ? Thanks for your help. |

I have no doubt there is car theft in Prague, as in any other large European city. You certainly won't need the car whilst you are there, as public transport is so good.
http://www.myczechrepublic.com/prague/parking.html and http://www.marys.cz/prague_parking/ have useful information. There is secure parking available: it would be sensible to contact the relevant places in advance to ensure a a space is available. The Park & Ride car parks are guarded, and cheaper than secure parking in the centre: http://www.prague.net/park-and-ride If there is any way you can avoid having the car in Prague (maybe travelling there by train instead?) I'd do so, if only to avoid the hassle of parking charges/getting to and from the parking spot.

Hi,
I also have to add, that parking restrictions were extended recently to the whole central part of the city. This means that most of the parking space on the streets is reserved for the local residents with special permits. Few remaining spots are paid parking during the day, but it is almost impossible to find an empty one.

Why do you want a hotel right in the centre? The public transport in Prague is amazing and you can travel in and out of the centre quickly and cheaply from any of the suburbs. If you must have the car then I would book a hotel that has parking so you can leave it there. I would make that my priority rather than selecting a hotel just because its in the city centre. Not neccessary... honest.

Thanks for your answers. It's great to get local first hand information like this. So I am now taking the suggestion to look for a hotel with parking. Previously my choices were the Three Golden Chains Hotel and the Savic Hotel but it appears as if neither has parking. So now I'm considering the Hotel Hoffmeister which does have parking onsite. It's at Pod Bruskou 7 which seems near enough to the centre of the city. We really like to walk and hope to have a hotel that is close enough, particularly to the Christmas market and other sites.
Do any of you know the Hotel Hoffmeister ? Is this close enough to the sites to be an easy walk ? Is it in a good safe area of the city ? I have no idea what Prague is like so any help will be really appreciated.

http://www.venere.com/search/?lg=en&geoid=4350
will give you hotel detail and reviews. If that long link doean't work, go to www.venere.com, search for Prague the scroll down the left-hand menu for the 'search by hotel name/chain' box. Put in 'hotel hoffmeister' and you'll get the page I linked. Click on the hotel name and you'll get details and reviews (venere is a very reliable site). It's on the Hrad (where the castle is), across the river and about 10 minutes walk from the Old Town (according to the hotel .... I think more like 15, personally). Prague has an xcellent public transport system (bus/ram/Metro) so you'll easily be able to use this if you want to. I don't thnk you need have any worries about safety in that area (nor in central Prague at all, to be honest).

Look at www.hoffmeister.cz.This hotel is near the castle and approx 10 mins walk from Charles Bridge which will take you across the river into Prague centre. Its also near to Green line metro so no problems at all for getting about.
