to a 1st time visitor perhaps the cities are alike. and i don't agree with the comparisons between the 2 cities.

i believe in all honesty, toronto is closer to chicago than to new york.

toronto does not have nyc's equals of boroughs, gridlocks, yellow cabs, subway system, south street seaport, central park and so many things.

but then nyc does not have toronto's electric cars of Queens road, CN tower, Casa Loma, toronto islands, distillary district, yorkville, etc.

both cities are great in their own right and totally different.

DG, I am a white man married to a black woman. We went to Toronto 8 years ago, in our early 40s, stayed in downtown. While I was not exactly counting the number of interracial couples, I can tell you that my wife and I heard no negative remarks, and were served as quickly or as slowly as anyone else there. Nobody pointed at us, etc. What do you expect Will happen to you, if anything?! Now, the feel of Toronto is like a cross between New York and London. It has the loftiness and airs of a European city, along with the common sense feel of North America. THere where these old wheezy trolley cars running on a 2 line subway system which criss-crossed the city like a plus sign. Their Chinatown is not half as crowded and shoulder-to-shoulder as New York's, so it didnt smell bad like NY's. You should find a good time there.
