| Stockholm | food and souvenirs Posted: Mon April 21, 2008 05:41 PM UTC
we are a family of 4 adults and a 11 year old child [ Indian Citizens ] coming to Stockholm for 3 days via Helsinki Viking Line . We will be staying at Hotel Oden 24 Karlbergsvagen . Is it possible to use the subway / citybus to reach the hotel from the Viking Line Port ? I think it is in a place called Stadsgardsleden . Are there some cheap supermarkets near our hotel where we can buy bread, milk, yoghurt, salads etc.? What is the best place to buy reasonably priced souvenirs of Sweden like fridge magnets , picture postcards , T-shirts etc . Thanks in advance

The cheap supermarket chains here are called Lidl, Netto, Hemköp and Vi. The not so cheap but not so overpriced either (my opinion) are Ica and Coop. I found an Ica shop at Karlbergsvägen 46.
I buy a lot of souvenirs to send back home so I've done some comparison, and I find that buying souvenirs is less expensive on the shops located on the part of Drottninggatan that's closest to Gamla Stan and the Parliament. Drottninggatan is a pedestrian street full with shops and restaurants a couple of minutes walk from Stockholm's central station. At the moment I can't remember the name of the shop I go to the most but I'll come back to you. You can access the harbor by public means this way, as of vikingline.se: Take the green subway line at Odenplan station, towards Skarpnäck, Farsta strand or Hagsätra and get off at Slussen. Take the exit towards the Saltsjöbanan/buses to Nacka and take any bus that starts with 400 (the ones marked with a D don't stop there so don't take it). Get off at the stop called "Londonviadukten" which is right in front of the Viking Line terminal. But maybe you should consider a taxi if you have a lot of or heavy luggage. Viking Line also has buses going to the harbor from Stockholm's central station and Slussen and costs 30 SEK per person.

thanks a ton . the phenomenal jump Euro has taken over the USD [ standard "foreign "currency in India ] means that we will be spending much more than our budget in Finland . The Swedish Kroner has been relatively quiet . Would you have some idea about some sample costs like 1] a souvenir T-shirt 2]a litre of milk 2]a can of soft drink 3] a macdonald burger ? thanks again and regards from Dr Anuj Delhi India

I remember I spent 195 SEK on an adult souvenir t-shirt (have never bought for children but I *think* they're between 89 and 129 SEK). A little of milk at Ica costs around 11 SEK and I'll come back to you for the Mcdo burger as I only eat their nuggets meal (around 60 SEK, they charge me differently every time!).

A hamburger meal at Mcdo costs between 50 and 65 SEK. The price might be a little off because the people I know prefer eating at Max, a Swedish hamburger chain.
I can't for the love of me remember the name of the souvenir shop :( I think it might be C Trend.

The subway does not take you all the way between the boat and your hotel. But there are busses that will take you to Slussen and then you take the subway to Odenplan, exit in the forward direction and the Hotel is there. At the ground level there is a shop where you can buy food, etc
