Berkeley Telegraph Avenue Stalls - Permit needed?
Posted: Mon April 21, 2008 06:22 PM UTC
Hey,

Just wondering how one would go about setting up a stall to sell stuff on Telegraph Avenue...

Are there limited spaces? Do you need to obtain some kind of permit? if so where from?

Thanks :)

In order to set up a booth on Telegraph Avenue you must do/meet the following requirements: 1. Goods must be handmade by yourself; Obtain a "Sellers Permit; " Call the Finance/Enforcement Officer and schedule a meeting where you must do the following: Bring receipts from past 6-mos showing raw materials purchases for the thinga-ma-jig you wish to sell, bring samples of actual raw materials you have purchased to produce thinga-ma-jigs, and finally, bring finished thinga-ma-jig for all to see, touch and feel, and possibly purchase if you a true salesperson.

There is a Street Vendor Ordinance which, with a little luck and ample time, you can find on the Berkeley website at www.ci.berkeley.ca.us. You could also try the Telegraph Avenue Association or whate ever they call themselves these days. Good luck.

Berkeley may be the capital of the "Free" Speech Movement, but when it comes to permits, that's where the concept of free and the City shift directions. There will need to be an exchange of money, but can't tell you how much.
