| Torino | An afternoon in Torino Posted: Mon April 21, 2008 10:06 AM UTC
Dear VT friends,
I am going to spend a afternoon in Torino on 1 May waiting Arturo Brachetti's evening performance at Teatro Alfieri. I wonder about a car park that allow us to be close to the theatre. What places does you suggest to see in this few hours? and what about restaurants nearby? Thank you in advance for any help you can give me. Happy travels, Orietta |

Ciao Orietta,
The square where is Teatro Alfieri (Piazza Solferino) has a parking lot on one side (street level) 400 mt far. Under Via Roma (the very central street) there is a huge underground parking with diffent entrance. This is not cheap, but it is in the best position for a quick visit of the center (piazza San Carlo, piazza Carignano, Piazza Castello and the like) 8 minutes walk away the teather. What kind of restaurants do you want? There too many to list all here. (se preferisci puoi contattarmi direttamente via email) ciao. Marco

On May 1st, parking is for free (no fees on Holidays in town except for underground parking) and street parking space shouldn't be a problem for most Turinese will be out of town - including myself. My suggestion is to look for spots on Corso Re Umberto, on both sides of the street, by just keeping driving south from Teatro Alfieri along Piazza Solferino. Another option is Via Meucci just west from the middle of Piazza Solferino. Should you still have no luck, which I doubt about, try Corso Galileo Ferraris which runs parallel to C.so Re Umberto and three blocks from Piazza Solferino.
A decent dining option is right on the same piazza as the theater, just walk some 100 meters south on the same side and you'll find the "8 e 1/2" restaurant before Via Meucci. Take a walk along Via Pietro Micca, Piazza Castello, Via Po, Piazza Vittorio Veneto. Don't miss the Mole in Via Montebello. On your way back, Via Carlo Alberto and Piazza Carignano. On the corner of Via Po at Piazza Vittorio Veneto, the "Porto di Savona" restaurant is a good eatery. Let me know if you need additional information. Enjoy Torino ;) Ciao Ant

Ciao Ant,
I mailed to Orietta the very same "Porto di Savona" as first choice of local cuisine. After the show, if they will too hungry to leave, the pizzeria "8 e 3/4" is just on the side of the theater. (maybe "8 e 1/2" is Fellini's copyright? :-) Ciao. marco

Ciao Marco,
l'errore e' felliniano, "8 e 3/4" e' corretto e chiedo scusa per il quarto d'ora di anticipo! Ciao Ant
