Kuala Lumpur 5 days in KL?
Posted: Mon April 21, 2008 07:34 AM UTC
We will be flying into KL in August, haven't been before. We have 5 days before going to Penang for about a week and then back to KL for 2 days. Is 5 days too long in KL? I was thinking of maybe going to Langkawi for a couple of days then catch a ferry across to Penang.
Hoping someone can give me some ideas. Thanks.

hi, i have recently returned from kl and penang.i was in kl for five nights and would have liked more time there. there is so much to see that your time will go very quickly.
i then went on to penang for 11 nights which was too long.i would suggest that you get the farry to langkawi from penang.its a couple of hours by ferry and the beaches are lovely.
have a great holiday in malaysia.it is a country of diversity and i found it fascinating.be sure to visit the batu caves, the kings palace, china town and little india.in penang ,i recommend that you do the island trip, penang hill, the temples and georgtown the capital. there is so much to see in both places.
have a great time, laney

It really depends whether you are into shopping or not. I would definately prefer to spend some time in Langkawi if you have the option - it is a fantastic destination.

As previous people have said, it depends on what your going to do there.
Theres many places to shop and the shopping centres are gigantic!
I was in KL for 10 days and I love it all!
5 days for me wouldnt be enough as theres quite a bit to do.

A non beach option is to go down to Malacca for the day. Its about a 2 hour drive on a really good highway. There would be buses- just haven't used them. Malacca is a lovely old town- lots of history. A very vibrant art community thrives down there - there are lots of funky cafes and boutique style hotels if you'd like to stay a night. One or two days would be enough. When in KL make sure you go and have a look at Putrajaya about half hour south of KL. Huge mosque and amazing bridges...all very new and sparkling but definitely worth a look. When in KL go to Merdeka Square to see beautiful old colonial buildings...go at night when the fairy lights make the buildings look like decorated cakes! Very close to China town and Little India. The Bangsar area quiet close to Sentral station is a good place for restaurants, shops, funky bars and cafes with more of an expat feel. Old China Cafe near Petaling Street (China Town) is a great little place to get that colonial vibe - ask people who might look local where it is. Try the sweet black rice pudding - fabulous. There is much more to KL than shopping.

I would recommend Lake Gardens in KL. Especially the bird park is fantastic. Don't forget to eat at hornbill resturant in bird park.

Petronas towers ofcourse is wonderful. There is a restaurant called Manhattan Fish Market in KLCC suraya mall in Petronas Towers. Best seafood I have experienced yet.

Also Batu caves, Putrajaya and places in Selangor state would be great to visit while staying in KL.

Taxi charges 200RM for whole day (9-5). Its the best way to move around.

5 days in KL?

If you get bored, maybe you could spend a day at Kuala Gandah Elephant Conservation Centre. It is in the state of Pahang but only about 2 hours drive from KL.

You could learn a lot about elephant and be 'upclose and personal' with them. You could feed the elephants, bath with them, ride them etc. It's so much fun! I don't know where else could you experience being this close with elephants.

Thanks for all your replies.
I'm not really into shopping, but by the sounds of it there's plenty of other things to do around KL. I'll have to do some more research :)
