Forum Question Posted By: Replies:
Luxembourg Is it a problem if my airline departure is after my visa expires?
Posted: Mon April 21, 2008 03:39 AM UTC
Hi,

I’m flying to Luxembourg and my travel visa is only good for 90 days but the time between flights is 110 days. I will not be breaking any immigration laws because I will be spending most of my time outside the Country(and schengen states). Will this be a big problem? Will I have to have proof that i will not be intending to stay there the whole time?

I have a US passport.

Thanks for the help

Have a read at:

Short visit visa: I think you're ok the way I read it.
But a definitive answer should always be obtained by the consulate in question.

Your 90 days in Schengen do not have to be on consecutive days. In case you get asked, show a ticket to the UK for example, or a hotel reservation there. It's unlikely that you'll get asked when entering Luxembourg. But they will want to know where you've been in the extra days once you're leaving.Keep the hotel receipts etc.

Good advice above. Cover your back by keeping all relevant bits of paper easily accessible, so that you can prove you were out of the Schengen area for most of the time. Allow yourself extra time at the airport if you can, in case questions are asked.
