| Amsterdam | daytrip to Gouda Posted: Sun April 20, 2008 09:32 PM UTC
Hi,
Do you know any company that offers a day trip to Gouda. We don't want to go by ourselves. Or If Gouda can be included among other cities. Your help will be apreciatted. Which company do you recommend that offers day trips from Amsterdam? Is it better to buy on line or just wait to get there ? Also to visit Anne Frank and Van Gogh museums, when is it better to go? Thanks again |

Definitely be there early for Anne Frank House. Some time before opening hours even.
As for Gouda: You can really do this by yourself easily. It's a small town and it's all walkable. I would recommend taking a train (www.ns.nl) at 18.10 EUR for a return trip from Amsterdam Centraal. There are several trains per hour and you can be there well under an hour. Visit the Tourist Information Gouda at: http://www.vvvgouda.nl/index.php?id=13&lang=13 (English). There's a downloadable city wmap at: http://www.vvvhetgroenehart.nl/CMS5/upload/docs/fo The English version of the brochure doesn't seem to be available but I've written a request to them to update their website. And I also think in this case my VT Gouda page is pretty extensive: http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/2bf0c/70a02/

There's a company which you can book at Schiphol Airport; see:
http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/tp/eb1a0 ... but Gouda is not on their list of destinations. If you insist on going to Gouda by a tour operator, ask at one of the Amsterdam local tourist offices; see: http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/tp/c9382 Ann Frank House: Be there at 8.45 or buy an evening ticket in advance. There was a 2 hour waiting line last week at noon (and that was a quiet day). PJ

Ah PJ, you looked too. I didn't find an organised day trip either.

Try this organization:

If it's the cheese history you're intereted in, I'd recommend Alkmaar instead of Gouda. Alkmaar is much nicer (not to discredit Gouda though) and if you're there on a Friday morning you can see the world famous cheese market.
It's an easy train ride from Amsterdam to Alkmaar. See www.ns.nl www.vvvalkmaar.nl

I still recommend visiting Gouda.
You could do it without a guide; just ask at the Tourist Information Centre for one of the 'town walks' and you will see the best of these old city (including some interesting museums). See for more info: http://www.vvvgouda.nl/index.php?id=13&lang=13 http://members.virtualtourist.com/vt/tfr/1/312/4/196757/ happy travels Jaap
