Haifa Travel from Cairo to Israel
Posted: Sun April 20, 2008 08:16 PM UTC
We will be taking a tour of Eqypt in September and want to go to Israel for several weeks too. What is the best way to get from Cairo to Israel?

Thank you

By public transport:
1. Bus: Cairo -> Taba (about 6-7 hours).
2. Walk across the border, and through Israel passport control.
3. Taxi to Eilat bus station (5-10 minutes).
4. Bus: Eilat -> Tel Aviv or Jerusalem (about 4.5 hours) - assuming one of those cities is your final destination.

If you plan to go directly to Haifa, then take the Eilat-Tel Aviv bus, and then take the bus from Tel Aviv to Haifa (a little over an hour).

my goodness, I really didn't think that much was involved! My husband has a knee injury and will be post-op. Is it walkable?
Where do you think we should stop before heading on to the Holy land? You said Jerusalem/Tel Aviv is 4.5 hrs. and Haifa quite close. Where should we stop on our trip. Should we break in Haifa and then continue?

This trip is a dream or us, any knowledge you can give us, is a gift.

Thanks again

Thank you so much for your kindnesses.

In that case, you should consider flying from Cairo to Tel Aviv - it's only an hour's flight. The downside is that it is relatively expensive. Also, you should consider renting a car to get around Israel, rather than public transport.

You should open a map of Israel.
Eilat is far in the south of Israel. Everything else is pretty close.
Take the bus from Eilat to Tel-Aviv.
Jerusalam is alot closer to Tel-Aviv then to Haifa. So if you're have somewhere to sleep in Tel-Aviv of Jerusalam, you should visit Jerusalam before continuing to haifa.
If you want to get to Haifa from Tel-Aviv I suggest the train, it's much more comfortable and considarably faster then the buss.
If you want to go to jerusalam directly from Eilat there is no reason to get to Tel-Aviv. Take a buss from Eilat to Bear Sheava, and from Bear Sheava to Jerusalam.
I live in haifa, if you have any questions. yigimanb@yahoo.com
