We hope to come by bus from Albania back to Athens. We're looking for small town jump off places...local culture, small hotels or inns. Any ideas?

I think Ioannina prefecture is exactly what you are looking for. It is exactly on your way by bus to Athens. I suggest Ioannina, Zagorochoria and Metsovo. Check my VT pages about the area.
