| Munich | Dachau and Viktualienmarkt Posted: Sun April 20, 2008 05:40 PM UTC
I will be in Munich for work for three days startng this Saturday, when I am on my own till evening.
I want to visit both Dachau and Viktualienmarkt. But considering I will be located in Schwabing and arrive at my hotel only by 12-12.30 will i be possible to isit both the places, also because its a Saturday. I was wanting to go to Dachau first and try my luck to catch the 1.30 pm guided tour which will get over by 3.30 or so. Will the market be open at that time of the day? Please suggest a feasible plan. Also, how much wud a cab to Dachau cost, approximately? Thanks in anticipation. -V- |

Dachau is quite a distance from Schwabing (about 30 km), and this would cost you about 47 Euro by taxi.
An S-Bahn ride takes you about 30 min, and the bus from the S-Bahn station takes some more minutes. So if you are lucky with the connections you could make it in time. You take the U-Bahn to Marienplatz/Hauptbahnhof, and get on the S-Bahn to Dachau. But really, it could get very close to missing the guided tour, as on Saturdays there are less trains than during the week :-( The Viktualienmarkt will still be open after your return from Dachau, normally until 8pm on a Saturday. However, not all stalls will be open that long. Some close at 5pm, others at 6pm. But there will still be enough acitity to get a feeling for the market.
