| Caracas | Budget accommodation in Caracas - Plaza Catedral Hotel Posted: Sun April 20, 2008 07:05 AM UTC
Last time I visited Venezuela I didn’t stay in Caracas, but next time I would like to stay there for a couple of days to see a few museums and take the Teleferico to El Avila. The question is where I should stay? Many areas are considered unsafe in Caracas and I’m travelling alone. Well, I want to stay at a nice budget hotel near the sights. Plaza Catedral Hotel is recommended in Lonely Planet and the good thing is that they have a top-floor restaurant (which means I can stay inside the hotel after dark). Has anyone stayed at that hotel? What is your opinion in that case?
Can anyone recommend another nice budget hotel? |

Hello Malena,
I see that your post is from April, maybe you already did your trip. If not I would like to advise you NOT to stay in a hotel in the city center, is dangerous and you wont go out at night, is not like other city centers.. Let me know if you want more information, Im not sure if you already travelled. Ana

If you are looking for cheap accomodation I am renting two rooms at home. This will save you a lot of money and might provide the experience of living with a Venezuelan familiy. Since security is always an issue, I advice registering in the Embassy so that they are advised who you are staying with. I can submit a residence letter and a work letter to the Embassy to this end.
My name is Julio Jimenez. My tel at work is 58 212 205 56 33, Cel 0416 718 64 34. My e-mail jjimenez@supercable.com. In case that you need any kind of information regarding Caracas, Ill be more than happy to provide it... And I agree with the previous reply, most hotels in Caracas are either very expensive or very bad. Best regards, Julio Jiménez

Thank you for the replies. I have now been in Caracas (actually left the city this morning), and I was very fortunate to stay with friends in Caricuao and had a great time.
