What is the best way to travel from Venice to Split. Can you go straight through without stopping in Trieste. Is train better than bus. Does the train/bus go through Zagreb or can Zagreb be by-passed? I think a train leaves Venice about 7.30 pm for Trieste, is this correct? Thank you

http://www.bahn.de/p/view/international/englisch/i
will give you times/routes for trains throughout Europe (you'll have to use the individual country's websites for fares). http://www.trenitalia.com/en/index.html will give you train times/routes/fares for journeys originating in Italy. All the Bahn.de Venice to Split routes involve changes, and all go through Zagreb. There's a train leaving Venice Mestre for Trieste at 19.43, but you might be better to get the 21.27 train which involves only one change (unfortunately at 4am!). Train will be much more comfortable than bus, imo. There is only one Trieste (Trst)-Split bus (17.30) so it seems you'd have to spend the night in Venice or Trst if you want to use the bus (thus removing any fare savings). http://www.ak-split.hr/EN/vozni.red/index.html

Hi!
I will suggest at you go by train for Trieste from Venezia Santa Lucia at 16:10 (lies in the actual Venice). Arrive to Trieste at. 18:15. Go by bus for Opatija in Croatia at. 18:30 from Trieste. Arrive to Opatija at 20:29. Spending the night in Opatija and next day go by bus into Rijeka. Go further from there by train for Karlovac at. 11:15 towards Zagreb. Go by train for Split at. 15:56 from there (the train "Zagreb - Split"). Arrive to Split at 20:48.
