Los Angeles 2 Days In LA - Looking for Hotel
Posted: Sat April 19, 2008 10:04 PM UTC
Hi Everyone,
My daughter and I are going to be in LA for two day and don't know where to stay. we were thinking about staying somewhere in Hollywood, just because it seems fairly close to other attractions. Since we only have two days we figured we would do the Hollywood thing and Sunset Blvd the next day. I've been reading within the forum that certain areas are safer than others. So that's what we need help with. Our hotel preference would be someplace nice but not ritzy. And it would be nice if there is a shuttle to the airport. We can go as high as about 150.00 if we have too. Would love to go less but we're figuring if we pay more it might put us in a nice area. Don't know!
Can anyone help with suggestions?
Thank You All!!!

Don't know enough about what you are looking for/ wanting to do. I would suggest Burbank for nicer hotels, and ease of studio access. Hollywood is close enough if you have a car, and the Bob Hope airport is shuttle close from several hotels. LAX is not the easiest airport to get in and out of. Mass transit in LA is improving, but still nowhere near good.

Universal studios tour is informative/fun but tourists rule.

Hollywood is known as hollywierd for a reason, it is fun if that is what you like.

I always think Venice is the place to get a feel for the S. California sub culture. Tie dye, street performers, etc, etc.

Safety is really not a huge issue, but theft is higher in some areas. Keep your stuff in sight and secured, and you shouldn't have a problem anywhere. What is the age of your daughter? Hollywood is not really small child friendly, it tends to attract transients and others that have fallen on hard times.

Best, Eric

I stayed at the Hollywood Holiday Inn, seemed fine to me! Tripadvisor tends to be better than VT for advice on hotels, in my opinion.

This is a little way out of your way but the Santa Monica Holiday Inn was great for a two night stay with the beach, shopping and entertainment nearby (mainly the famous Santa Monica Pier). Have fun where ever you guys stay.

As a general rule, the further west you go in the Hollywood area, the safer you will be.

As mentioned above, LAX is unpleasant and slow. If you haven't made flight reservations yet, you might consider flying in to Burbank airport.

Hi thank you all for your input.
In answer to Eric's question about my daughter. She is 28. Our plan really was to try to take the public transportation. I really didn't want to rent a car if I didn't have to. Basically because we don't want to get lost.....lol...however, my sister is also going and renting a car so that's no big deal. Just thought it would be nice to not have to have a car. We've never been to LA before so really don't know what there is to do there, bescides the hollywood thing....so as you can tell we are going sort of blind...lol....I know that's not good. But that's why I'm here!.....lol...
Thanks again to all of you again for your help!
