| Lisbon | Campera or Freeport Outlets? Posted: Sat April 19, 2008 02:58 PM UTC
Hi guys,
Quite a superficial question but important nonetheless for us shopaholics! Am only going to be spending 1.5days in lisbon, i have heard there is plenty of shopping to be done - in terms of outlet shopping, which is better, campera or freeport? this is in terms of range of brands as well as discounts! also, im sure will be able to navigate my way there but any handy tips most welcome. many thanks! katie |

Hi Katie, don't get mad on me, but... are you serious?
One single day to Lisbon dedicated to outlets? Do you really know Lisbon? I've been to both outlets, and to be honest, the best that I found was a large door to exit and a road to drive back home. Even my wife (who could resist 11 consecutive hours in Lisbon's El Corte Inglês) and is preparing herself to the gold medal of Olympic Shoppingexhaustiveinventorytryandbuyornot) agreed with me. I found Freeport more outstanding, but the only thing we (I repeat...WE!) bought there, was... a dinner.

I recovered from the shock, and to prove you that I'm not so bat as it may look, here is some help:
Both structures are located out of the city, conceived to be reached by car. So, taxi would be the easiest way, but it may cost 25-30€ each way. Public transport is available to both places from Gare do Oriente: To Campera take a train to Castanheira do Ribatejo, and there the outlet's private free shuttle (it runs 4 times a day in each direction). To Freeport pick bus nº 431/432/437 of TST - Transportes Sul do Tejo See? I'm not that bad! But... forgive me: why turn your back to the marvelous Lisbon?

hi, thanks for your help. to answer your question, definitely not going to lisbon solely for the outlet shopping but i had heard freeport for example was the biggest in europe and thought it was certainly worth enquiring after.. my time in lisbon is limited though so i will also be doing a crash-course tourist's guide around the city too!

I have to agree with solopes - if you only have a short time in Lisbon, shopping is not the way to spend it! It's a delightful city that just begs to be explored and enjoyed.

Hello,
First of all I agree with the previous posts. I think it is a waste of time going there. 1) You will lose lots of time going in and out of the city especcially if you use public transports (we're talking about malls that are about 30/40 Kms out of the city). 2) In my opinion these malls are not that great. Things are normally quite chosen when you get there and savings are only reasonable. Freeport is the biggest, however it had a disastrous opening (they decided to open the mall when 3/4 of the stores were still closed so when people went there they get frustrated and they lost a lot of customers). Stores are opening and closing down and I really don't know how the place is now (actually some months ago the association of the store managers asked the bankrupcy of the mall). If I were you I would go to Colombo (you have subway there and it is the biggest), El Corte Inglés (more expensive but also with plenty of choice), Vasco da Gama (smaller but it is in a nice place), Amoreiras (it has a different type of shops and it is not that far away from Marques de Pombal)... They are closer, have plenty of choice and prices aren't that bad. Have a nice trip!
