My wife wants to see elephants in the wild, but with the unrest in some African countries I am concerned about a trip there. Any advice?

Go to Addo in South Africa and combine that with a tour of the Garden Route. Best time to is February.

You could try Namibia. Its a great country and pretty safe. You can see lots of them in Etosha Nat Park (we got surrounded by a herd of mothers and calves, it was terrific!) and in addition you could visit the desert and the huge dunes as Sossusvlei.

I lived through and survived many serious world crisis while on site so to speak.
One should never expect an entire country to be at unrest. But if you are scared, go to South Africa. Addo Park is nice, you don't need a guide. But Kruger Park is better. You don't just want to see Elephants. Tanzania is AFIK safe again, fly with KLM directly into JRO Kilimanjaro airport. Tour the Serenengeti. No comparison to Kruger PArk. I can't imagine civil unrest in the town of Moshi, Tanzania. PM me if you need more details.

I would also recommend Amboseli National park in Kenya. We had some skirmshes after last years election but now things peaceful.

Trip report with lots of elephant sightings. South Africa and Botswana, self drive. Stable countries, that like the tourists. Best, Eric
