You may go to brazilian border through Xui or Rivera. I believe the best choice may be Xuy (There are many bathing resorts between Lagoa dos Patos and Atlantic Ocean). If you go inland Rio Grande do Sul state the best cities you may visit are: Porto Alegre, Gramado, Caxias do Sul, Pelotas.
I'm sending below some interesting links to you: http://www.citybrazil.com.br/rs/stavitoriapalmar/turismo.htm http://www.reservas.net/ssphtm/hoteles_UY_JSI.html http://www.portaldeldiablo.com.uy/modules/inicio/mainFrame.php http://www.jaunted.com/maps/Uruguay-Travel-Map Cassiovieggore

It's low season and winter is coming over! You won't find much action along our shores this time of the year.
There's a place nearby Atlantida, in Balneario Argentino, called El Aguila. It's a eagle's head shaped building on top of a cliff... that's a good sunset spot and it's walking distance from Atlantida's "downtown". There's another cool sunset spot in Solis. Get down to the beach and walk west towards the river. You'll see a big cliff, the sunset from upthere is great! If you are into hiking, try to climb the Sierra de las Animas and get to the Pozos Azules. That's a high-light!! Piriapolis is another nice option and you have lot of things to do all year round. Climbing the Pan de Azucar and heading up the cross is cool, as well. The sunset from the Cerro San Antonio's top is pretty nice, too. The most famous sunset from that area is from Casa Pueblo, in Punta Ballena. Besides the sunset, you shouldn't miss the building itself. Closer to the Brazilian border (called Chuy), you shouldn't miss Valizas and Cabo Polonio. La Paloma and Punta del Diablo are two great options, as well. You'll find historical sites closer two the border; there are two fortresses some centuries old... they're called Santa Teresa and San Miguel. You may find some nightlife in Punta del Este, I'm not that sure if you find many people in the smaller beaches... Good luck!
