| Budapest | Train from Budapest to Vienna Posted: Sat April 19, 2008 03:00 AM UTC
We will be staying in Budapest from May 24-30 and going from Budapest to Vienna on May 30, 2008. Please let me know whether I need to reserve for train tickets now or I can just buy the ticket in Budapest. If I need to buy them in advance, please let me know the website where I can buy. Thanks.

Hi,
usually it is not necessary to make reservations, but for the direct trains like EC a reservation should be made. Have a look at the page of the Austrian Railways at http://tinyurl.com/2lbpf5 where you can find the online- and -ticket per post - service! Have a nice trip!

If you are worried about availability (and I'm sure there is no need to be) then just pop into the station in Budapest at some point before your onward travel date and buy tickets then.

You can find out the times, prices, and making bookings of trains from Budapest to anywhere via MAV's information department:
informacio@mav-start.hu tel: +36 (1) 371-94-49 They usually have someone who can speak English available. Pretty much all the express trains to Vienna require a reservation, although if you aren't bothered by an exact time then you can probably book the day before at any of the stations in the city.

You should not need to buy them in advance. What I would do, is once you get to Bp get acclimated to the place and go find the Keleti (eastern) train station. You should be able to buy your tickets a few days ahead of time.
Hungarian train web page== www.elvira.hu and Austrian is www.obb.at You will not be able to purchase from either web site, but it gives you times etc. Best bet, print out the approx times you are interested in and just point to which one you want. Have fun

Hi Buy you ticket as soon as you get to Budapest, but do not leave it to the last minute.
Good Luck, Mike
