| Uruguay | Bus Prices in Uruguay Posted: Sat April 19, 2008 12:26 AM UTC
I will be traveling to Uruguay next week from Buenos Aires and I'm trying to decide whether I should buy a ferry ticket ahead of time, coming back to Buenos Aires from Montevideo, or if I should buy a bus ticket from Montevideo to Colonia, and just take the ferry from there. Will I save money with one of these options over the other one? Thanks!!

depends on weather time is money. the bus trip from montevideo is 2.5 hours and then the boat trip is an hour plus your waiting and travel times between, to and from stations etc. if you just take the ferry from montevideo it is about 65-75$ us. or 1500 uy pesos and is 3 hours.from colonia it is about 35$. i came from ba 2 weeks ago and will return in a week. i was at the buquebus estation in punta carrertras tonight so this is up todate. i plan to return to ba via montevideo having already done it via bus etc and i think boat to ba is the best use of my time and dollers. if you have time to kill though, bus on. have fun. peace, goneto.

p.s. if youre not traveling on the weekend or a holiday, youll need to check that, buying ahead of time and locking yourself in, is not mandatory. there are about 6 or 7 buses a day to and from colonia to montevideo and visaversa.they cost nine dollers each way, american dollers. the buquebus has a week schedule mon-thurs and a weekend schedule fri sat sun. you can change your ticket once bought and you can find thier schedule on the net. good luck. peace, goneto

Thanks for all the info Goneto - I will be traveling on the weekends a bit, as you said. Is there a website where I can buy bus tickets before I arrive in Uruguay? I will probably need a ticket from Colonia to Montevideo, and a ticket from Montevideo to Punta del Este. I'll be taking the ferry back to B.A. from there. Thanks again, I appreciate it.

There's no need to buy bus ticket in advance. Just go to the bus terminal and take the ticket there.
If you need info on timetables and prices, check www.trescruces.com.uy Regards
