| Vilnius | Where to eat? Posted: Fri April 18, 2008 01:38 PM UTC
Hello All,
Me and my Mrs. will spend five days in Vilnius in June. I find it sometimes difficult to find nice restaurants to eat at when being in a new city. So I would appreciate if you folks could recommend some places in and around old town. Places with local dishes costing around 15 Euros would be nice. Thanks, Martti |

As a Vilnius resident i can't not to recommend "Lokys", www.lokys.lt
, this place is legendary (and always was legendary). Download from www.inyourpocket.com PDF with honest reviews, it should be helpfull to choose. If weather is good go to Belmontas, it is a complex of restaurants near small river surrounded with nice views. No public transport, take a taxi, say "Bel-Mon-tus". It's on the outskirts.

Yes, there are two good ones that I would recommend. Cili Kaimas on Vokieciu 8 is nice and you should get a good mean for under 15 euro. It can be crowded on weekends at peak dinner hours, so watch that. I found an online menu for you. It is only in Lithuanian, but at the restaurant it is also in English:
http://www.cili.lt/uzsakymai/nkaimas/sys.meniu Another good one is Avilys on Gedimino 5. What is nice there is that they have a microbrewery with delicious home made beer. While beer is good overall in Lithuania, here it is very special. They are a bit more expensive, but you should do fine for 15 euro (50litas) Here is their website, again only in Lithuanian. But at the restaurant it is also in English: http://www.avilys.lt/ Come by to our new Lithuanian Forum and ask your Lithuanian Questions there! http://www.lithuania-forum.com/

Having just returned from Vilnius I wouldn't recommend Avilys. Well, maybe for the beer, but not for the food. We went there for lunch, and since it was organized by our travel agent we couldn't decide on the food (or place) ourselves. First we had to wait for ages for our drinks and then we had to wait again for the appetizers although they had received the order beforehand and knew what time we would be arriving (and we were there on time). The food itself wasn't a delight either, our main course was chicken fillet covered with cheese and served with salad and pasta. The chicken was almost tasteless and the pasta was already cold. Everyone in our group was left hungry, but we all liked the beer though ;)
I'd recommend Lokys, too, their food was absolutely delicious! The service was friendly, although a bit on the slow side as well, but I guess it's like that everywhere in Vilnius.
