| Ko Samui | Hotels and bargains, or not? Posted: Fri April 18, 2008 12:54 PM UTC
Hi everyone,
I'm in Samui on the 5th May, have only booked a room for the first 2 nights as most hotel reviews are so mixed. My question is, will there be plenty of rooms avaiable this time of year and will I get some good deals. Was in Phuket last year and got stuck in a horrible hotel as the place was heaving, though it was in Jan, peak time. Will be trying to visit a few beaches in Samui. Thanks for any comments left, John |

Samui may be a bit different to Phuket as Phuket is the main package destination from Australia and now competes with bali due to the bombings.
Thai Airways flys into Phuket from Oz at least 3 times a week enroute to Bangkok whereas you need to get another flight to samui from Bangkok or Phuket. Package holidays to Samui are a fair bit more expensive than Phuket plus Jan is school holidays makeing Phuket very buseyin Jan. You are going in Samui low season or end of high season so should be ok. We are going to Samui for the first time on the 30th May and have found some great deals on"Sawadee.com" I have used sawadee .com for accommadtion in Thailand for the past 4 years and have never had a problem. I think some of the "Walk in" hotel prices will be higher than booking on line but budget type should be plentyful and cheap Den

Those reviews on Sawadee.com are VERY mixed. Some people will complain about everything, and give hotels a dodgy rating because of a ridiculous thing, eg. weather too hot, pool too deep, burnt toast, bad feng shui in room. Basically, some people are born whingers.
I've only stayed in 2 places: Moonhut Bungalows - Maenam Beach (awesome and laid back) Baan Samui resort - Chaweng Beach (have stayed here twice) Hope your hotel is a good one.
