| Palermo | Women travelling alone in Palermo Posted: Fri April 18, 2008 12:22 PM UTC
I will be travelling to Palermo with a female friend in September.
I would be grateful for some safety tips for women in Palermo - including whether going out at night is advisable. |

May be that Palermo has a bad reputation.
But agreing with a character of a local movie the real trouble in Palermo is... traffic! That said, as everywhere in big city there are place that are safer and place to avoid. I wandered around on my Vespa also in the dirty alley (but without helmet to look more local) during daylight and I felt safe. I underline that really that face of Palermo is fascinating. Baroque and deterioration are the two side of the same city. The market area called La Vucciria at night can look a little scary (see my photo). The touristy sites are normally safer. Just follow the usual rules when travelling abroad. Palermo's people are well known for their hospitality and kindness. Ciao. marco
