| Hallstatt | clothes advice Posted: Fri April 18, 2008 11:39 AM UTC
Hi all,
We are going to visit Hallstatt (will stay in Obertraun) starting from 30.04 till 07.05. I wonder what is the weather like in this period in this region. Check with webcam, seems it is rather cold there, the trees are still bald. ;( Can I expect a bit more green colors in a week? |

Hi,
there is a rather positive longterm-forecast for the end of April. Weather should be nice (taking into account, that Obertraun is a mountainous region, like Hallstatt, where it is somewhat cooler than in Salzburg and Vienna). As the trees have already developed their first green here in Vienna, I'm sure, that it will be real spring also in Hallstatt, when you arrive ! Greetings!

in april after 3pm the sun is gone behind the mountains, that fact makes Hallstatt a bit colder than other places.

Thank you, gentlemen!!!!!!!
2WStat: You infused me with hope... If you have a link with long term weather forcast for Salzkammergut, will you please post it. As I found only until 22.04 and my local weather websites give only Vienna.

Hi Vasilissa !
Have a look at BAD GOISERN weather forcast; B. Goisern is a mere 15 kms distant from Hallstatt and should have rather comparable weather conditions! http://tinyurl.com/4knkfe See a map at http://tinyurl.com/3jjwcb Good luck !

I always find it a bit difficult when people ask what sort of weather they can expect and what clothtes they should bring, especially in these times when everyone has heard of climate change. Basically you should be prepared for cold and warm weather. If the sun comes out, the days may be warm, although evenings are still rather chilly. If the sun doesn't come out and if you're very unlucky, it may snow. I know that's not of much help when it comes to packing, but unfortunately it is the truth. Besides, weather forecasts for more than 5 days are generally not reliable. It makes more sense to check out average temperatures in general. Then you'll see that you indeed should be prepared for basically everything. Example; MSN forecast for Bad Ischl (not far from Hallstatt) says it will be 12 centigrades high and 1 centigrade low (almost freezing point!) on Thursday 24th, 22 centigrades high and 10 centigrades low on Monday 28th. That is, in terms of clothing, quite a difference.

if you want to see the salt-mine in hallstatt than dress like in wintertimes ;)
trees are getting green these days :) but evenings are cold at the end of april, I'm sorry, especially in the neighborhood of mountains. If it rains, you could get 7°C ...
