I am backpacking around Europe and will be in Monte Carlo for a couple of nights and want to visit the famous Casino.

I have been doing some research and most people say to enter the "main" casino, you need to be wearing formal clothing.

I don't want to have to lug a paid of dress shoes around for 6 weeks when I am only going to wear them once...

So my question is:

Will I get into the main part of the Casino wearing:

Suit Jacket
Shirt
Tie
Jeans
Semi casual shoes

Sorry, definitely no Jeans allowed in the "main" Casino !
Everything else you're mentioning seems to be o.k!
However, have a nice time and watch your money (there's only one permanent winner:the casino")

On a whim, we decided to do a little gambling at the casino. When we found out about the sport coat/tie rules we were a little disapointed. The people at the desk said, "no problem" and loaned us a sport coat and tie for the trip upstairs. A warning, however, you must pay a small fee to get upstairs to gamble.

you may certainly enter Loew's Casino or the public hall of the Casino de Monte Carlo in relatively informal dress; yet if you want to visit the so called "Main Hall" of the Casino, rather strict rules for a more formal clothing apply.
So, just to be on the safe side, either take a tie, a jacket and a pair of dark trousers or a suit or rather go to Loew's!

what is I wear everything you suggested (shirt, tie, dress pants, dress shoes) but not the jacket?

I fear, they won't let you in, but give it a try !
