What about the Metairie around Galleria Boulevard and downtown Superdome area?
Are they pretty safe areas? We're thinking of going to the 4th on the River fireworks display also. Any comments about that area? |

Metarie = pretty safe
Superdome = not so safe

The I-10/Causeway area in Metairie is okay. Lots of hotels around there and a large mall, but the traffic's also terrible. You'll also absolutely need a car in this area.
Downtown New Orleans is really tricky. It's better to stay in the French Quarter if you can or, if you can't, as close to the Quarter as you can get.
