Ljubljana Travelling with a baby ... Worry about food and clothes?
Posted: Thu April 17, 2008 05:10 PM UTC
Hi dear Vts,

We are a Brazilian couple with a baby boy(18 months old)and we are going to Luibliana in Sept 03th-10th.

1) How propably will be the wheather? Cold, comfortable?
2) Could you please suggest us a budget place to stay ,also easy place to reach by bus or tram, as we will have many things to carry...the stroll, luggage and the baby :)
3) Is it easy to find baby food on the supermarkts? Such as Nestle, Gerber?

We are worried how to feed our baby...as it will be his first time abroad... and our first time with a baby.

Thank you very much!

What I said about baby food in the reply about Germany applies in Ljubljana too.no worries whatsoever.

Climate tables here:

http://www.eurometeo.com/english/climate/city_LJLJ/climate-average_ljubljana,slovenia

You will probably find the weather to be slightly warmer than in Germany: Slovenia has a more Mediterranean climate.

Ljubljana is a lovely city, but small. Its accommodation options, therefore, are more limited than larger cities. Have a look at the tourist info site on:

http://www.slovenia.info/?_ctg_namestitev=0&title=Accommodation

for options. A 'gostilna' (inn) or b&b will be cheaper than a hotel.

If you are flying the airport bus will stop outside Ljubljana railway station, so consider how far your hotel is from that point (the city centre is 10 minutes walk from there at the most).

1. It could be anywhere from hot to slightly chilly. It's hard to say so much in advance. But it will most likely be somewhere between 15-25 Celsius. Most likely it will be nice, but anything is possible, really.

3. I don't think finding baby food will be difficult. Maybe if you want a very specific brand and product, yes, but otherwise they have it even in little grocery shops (but, of course, the bigger mega-markets - Mercator, Spar, Leclerc - will have bigger choices). They have some international brands (I don't remember if they are the ones you mentioned), but what is most popular is good-quality local babyfood brand Frutek (or anything by their maker, Fructal - they are fruit juice companly, but they also make baby food). That should be everywhere and it's very decent substitute if you won't be able your specific brands. The shelves with baby food are usually next to diet/eco food.

Sorry, can't answer the 2. question, maybe someone else will. I hope you have a nice time!

Nestle are a huge multi-national company. They have so many brands (including Gerber), so people may not even realise that Nestle is the actual owner.

List of Nestle-owned babyfood brands here:

There are not a lot of budget places in downtown Ljubljana.

Check my Ljubjana page for photos of the hotel where we stayed. It is called Hotel EMONEC.It was a simple hotel but clean and the location was perfect, very close to the 3 bridges. Other VT members have stayed there as well. Check their reviews.
Have a great trip.

Mmm, cokolino, yes, that gets my vote, too; give that to a child and you'll never get it off it. I still eat it sometimes and I've been adult for a long time.

Gorenjka! Yes, of course, and I think they improved them (at least for my taste - more cocoa inside). They have a whole line; my favourite is still the classic raisins & nuts and one with cinnamon & cillantro. I also like their dark chocolate with juniper. They have a website at www.gorenjka.si.
