| Winnipeg | Best parking spots for concert at MTS Centre Posted: Thu April 17, 2008 04:37 PM UTC
I am coming to Winnipeg, from North Dakota for a concert in July at the MTS Centre.
I know there are some safety concerns in downtown Winnipeg. Where would be the best/safest parking spots for a concert at the MTS Centre to best avoid car theft, panhandlers, etc? Thanks |

Sorry to take so long to answer - we had good weather this weekend, so I spent it outside.
I have never had any difficulties parking downtown, and my preference is to park in the streets where it is free. There are a number of parking lots within three or four blocks of the MTS Centre - both street level or parking garages. Parking in any of them will be fine. Winnipeg has a reputation for kids stealing cars - mainly for joy rides. My best defence is to drive a beater for a car. No self-respecting kid would be caught dead in my 15 year old Chevy. But regardless, normal problem-avoidence measures should be taken -- don't leave the doors unlocked; don't have things that look valuable in the car, etc. If your car is new, it has anti-theft devices, correct? They have helped in reducing auto theft. Panhandlers are not usually agressive, and they seem to be around more during the day than in evenings. Have a great time! What is the concert? There are quite a few scheduled this year.

Thanks for the reply!
I am going to a Judas Priest concert. I am a middle aged metal head. We hardly get any good concerts in North Dakota, so I guess I will be road tripping to Winnipeg. So if I drive up for the concert, park near the MTS Centre and head for home after the concert, I shouldn't have too many problems?

Yeah, especially if you don't mind spending $5 or thereabouts for evening parking in the lots. Last time we went to a Manitoba Moose game, we parked in the library parking lot - underground parking for some 500+ cars - and just kitty corner from the MTS Centre - check the parking out at: http://theparkingstore.winnipeg.ca/theparkingstore
