Budapest Location?

hi,

I'm pretty new to this but here it goes...

I'm planning to go to Budapest at the start of december 2008 with a few friends. I'm a student, so of course, a budget hotel would be brilliant. Recently i went to Berlin and stayed in the Friedrichshain/Prenzlauerberg/Kreuzberg area and found it just to my liking. Are there such places in Budapest? Thanks in advance :)

Go to Google Earth. Plug in the coordinates 47 29 59.00N 19 03 14.00E and draw a circle around that point with a radius of 500 meters. Find a place to stay within the circle.

That's great, but how were those areas in Berlin? Describe them please, so that we could give you hints about similar areas in Budapest.

Thanks for everyones advice. Well..I'd say they were alternative areas. A student population, punks, a large squatting community, bars etc etc Hope that helps! Thanks again

Student areas you'll find in the vicinity of the main universities (and famous high schools), that are: ELTE campuses near Astoria and Kalvin ter, the Corvinus Campus at Fovam ter and the BME in Buda, between Lagymanyosi hid and Szabadsag hid. Especially vivid area is the Raday utca, but you'll find students at any bar or cafe in the neighborhood.
As for punks, don't expect too many of them. Maybe in the evening near rock clubs like Rocktogon at Oktogon, or Kek Yuk, Petofi Csarnok (in Varosliget) etc. when punk bands are on stage.

I forgot bars. You'll find them everywhere, though the most popular are the Liszt Ferenc ter - Oktogon, Raday utca, Grand Circle Blvd, with dozens of cafes and bars around.
