Orlando Orlando for Older Adults
Posted: Thu April 17, 2008 01:39 PM UTC
My husband and I (mid 60's and mid 50's) will be visiting Orlando for a week at the end of April. We have been to Disney World in recent years with grandchildren and this will be our first visit as "adults only". Can anyone make suggestions for activities at Disney that we might especially enjoy? We have made reservations to see Cirque de Soleil and would appreciate any other suggestions you might have for the area. We are moderately active adults and also appreciate chilling by the pool. Thanks for any advice.

My wife and I (mid 30's) take several trips down to WDW -- some trips with my 10 year old son, many without...so we enjoy experiencing Disney from both perspectives.

Be sure to spend plenty of time in Epcot, specifically World Showcase. You could literally spend an entire day going from country to country. Enjoy the foods (and drinks) that are unique to each country, talk with the Cast Members from each country, enjoy the shows, etc. It is amazing and fun.

Do some shopping and walking (and people-watching) over at the Boardwalk Resort. They have a literal boardwalk lined with shops and restaurants, all overlooking a large lake that has the Yacht and Beach club resorts on the other side. You can visit the Swan, Dolphin, Yacht Club, Beach Club & Boardwalk resorts all by foot (or by water taxi) -- they're all in the same general area.

We enjoy resort-hopping at the Magic Kingdom area resorts. Start at the Poly and head up to the Tambu lounge and grab a drink and look out over the grounds. You can walk from here all over the resort. Hop on the monorail over to the Grand Floridian and walk around there, too. Do the same at the Contemporary.

The cool thing about all of the resorts are you can get there and walk around without having to use theme park admission.

My wife and I enjoy sitting and people-watching, and striking up conversations with strangers who are on their own vacations. :-D

Have fun!

My husband and I love WDW also. We are planning to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary there in a few weeks. There are alot of great places to eat in Epcot, as someone else mentioned. Pick a type of food you like, i.e. Chinese, and go to that country. You really can't go wrong. We also really enjoy the Downtown Disney area. There is a Wolfgang Puck Restaurant there which was real good - be careful though there is a fast serve and a sit-down, the sit-down is better. And the living seas area has a seafood place which was absolutely the best - make a reservation or the wait time is awful.
Also - away from Disney there is a really good place in the Peabody Hotel. Very elegant.

Cirque de Soleil is a good start. Some suggestions:
How about a romatic dinner at Victoria and Albert's at the Grand Floridian? It's a great meal and very romantic.
The Saratoga Springs Resort (Disney Resort) has a great spa. Book a nice massage for two to pamper and relax.
If you play golf, take advantage of the beautiful disney courses.
Take in a comedy show at pleasure island.
The movie theatre in pleasure island is a great place to see a movie. The seats are super comfy and the view is perfect from every seat.

My favorite and I think you will enjoy is an Illuminatuions Cruise. During the Epcot fireworks show you can ride on boat and watch the fireowks from the best vantage point. Call 407-wdw-play for reservations.

If you need soem more help or suggestions, feel free to throw me a line.

Liz
