| Athens | Daily Food Budget for Mykonos Island Posted: Thu April 17, 2008 05:08 AM UTC
Hi there,
Can anyone tell me or give me a rough idea of how much to budget for eating out in Mykonos Island? As a rough guide for lunch just a sandwich/crepe from a cheap cafe or street vendor, and for dinner the cheapest kind of restaurant you can get, pizza places etc? For instance backpackers going through Europe, how much would you budget for per day on food? Thanks in advance, Isabel :o) |

I'm not sure about Mykonos but I can speak for Athens, Santorini & the Peloponnese. The cheapest meal is a soulvaki/gyro to go. Make sure you get it to go. It should only cost between 1.80-2.50 Euros. Most of the ones I ate cost me 1.80 Euros. If you eat it at the restaurant, they triple charge you and it can range from 8-12 Euros for the same meal. Crazy!!
Also, you can get Panini sandwiches for a decent price like 2.50-3.50 Euros. They look like french bread sandwiches and then they press them in a sandwich presser. Those are good on the go. Sorry I can't answer your questions about the cheapest restuarants. P.S. At restaurants they charge you for bread. Usually 1.50 per person. For two that adds up. Make sure you tell them "no bread". Hope this helps!

Mykonos is an EXPENSIVE island and you should have sufficient funds, if you want to live "the Mykonian vida loca"!
A souvlaki should be around 2 euros, a pizza around 8-10 euros, a crepe around 5-7 euros, a sandwich around 5 euros. So 3 souvlakis, 1 pizza, 1 sandwich, plus some drinks, you should count 25-30 euros for your everyday eating needs. Have fun!

Isabella, what I'm wondering is why as a backpacker you will be spending much time in Mykonos, one of the 2 (with Santorini) most expensive islands? If u are going for the parties, you can't afford the drinks, hope someone buys drinks for u :)).
What about Ios? Paros? Both more affordable, plenty of nightlife, both are easy to get to by slower (cheaper) ferries, both have beaches as nice as Mykonos. Just a thought.
