Hi there,
Can anyone tell me or give me a rough idea of how much to budget for eating out in Venice? As a rough guide for lunch just a sandwich/crepe from a cheap cafe or street vendor, and for dinner the cheapest kind of restaurant you can get, pizza places etc? For instance backpackers going through Europe, how much would you budget for per day on food? Thanks in advance, Isabel :o) |

In Venice, look for the Brek chain of restaurants. There is one near Santa Lucia Train Station. They have a buffet style set up with all the food clearly price marked so that you know how much you are spending before you get to the checkout. Food is basic, pasta, pizza, salads etc but very tasty and of course very economical especially for Venice.

What I said in my Rome reply applies even more so to Venice, which is very expensive imo, especially in the tourist-busy areas.
I'd avoid restaurants altogether (well, I actually did) and eat at bars/cafes in the evening. Try to base yourself in/near the Dorsoduro area, where the university is: students can't afford expensive meals, so the cafes etc round Campo dei S. Margherita area have to keep prices accessible.

Hi! I paid 2 euros for a delicious filling slice of freshly baked Pizza from Algiubagio at Vaporetto stop - Fondamente Nova, then paid 2 euros for a gorgeous chocolate ice cream there!
Pizzas at Aciugheta- 5 mins walk from San Marco Piazza start at 6 euros, Toasted cheese/ham sandwiches were 2.50 euros in 2006 at Pizza Giacomo, which is on the street at the side of Aciugheta. Also consider the Rialto Markets for cheap fruit etc, and the shops around there for sandwiches made with quality ham or cheese. There are a few supermarkets around Venice too, to stock up on cheaper wine, juices, things to make sandwiches/ picnics up with etc. Please visit my Venice Restaurants pages for more info on these and other places to eat in Venice, and feel free to contact me for more info on Venice. Have A Great trip, Look forward to reading all about it! Best Wishes, Sue x

there are some student restaurants listed on the "venicecard" map (so guess you might find on theirwebsite) with set meals at 10 euors I think.
most sanwiches in bars are 1.50 (for sliced bread) and 3.50 or a bit more for foccacia with lots of filling. you can get things like a sausage /meatball or rice ball for 0.50 cents in small bars (you would neeed a few to make a snack meal, but it would eb a change.
