HI there,

Can anyone tell me how much departure tax is from LA for international flights (coming back to New Zealand?)

Thanks in advance :o)

PS: You dont have to pay departure tax for being in transit, eh?

We flew out of LA for 20 years and never had to pay a departure tax. Is this something new or just for non-US citizens?

Just curious. The only place I've ever paid a departure tax was Haiti and they wouldn't take their own currency; you had to pay in US dollars which always seemed odd to me.

Most times it's included in your airplane ticket; check out the receipt from paying for your flight.

Hi again,

Well whenever we fly out of New Zealand here, everyone has to pay a NZ$25 "departure tax" no matter whether you were an NZ citizen or not.

In UK also, they have GB40 departure tax (which is shockingly expensive).

It doesn't say its included in the ticket..

So I was just wondering how much USA's departure tax would be, hoping it wasn't too much! :o)

I've never seen a departure tax for leaving the US (although, of course, it may be rolled into the ticket)...there is certainly nothing like what I have seen elsewhere where you have to go to a separate window and buy a stamp or whatever to leave (where did I do that??? geez, I no longer remember)...

Anyway, we only charge you to come to the US, not to leave ;-)

I would phone your airline just to make sure that it's not included in your ticket.

It is included. There is no facilitation in any US airport for the MASS collection of exit fees so they have the airlines and travel agents do their tax collection and send it to them

It was suggested years ago that we simply give our paychecks to the government and let them give us a living allowance. It certainly would cut down on paperwork. LOL
